When you are covered in blood in the first 5 minutes… the day is gonna suck!
I walked into work with Mr. Knuckle-pants today and within the first 3-5 minutes I found myself rushing a VERY VERY ripped apart beagle who was bleeding to death, to the back to be fixed. I was COVERED in blood. This poor dog needed something like 46 staples and hundreds of stitches and is lucky to be alive. He had been attacked by 3 black labs!!!! They must have gone into pack mode and tried to kill poor lil beagle guy.
I didn’t realize how bloodied my clothes were until I reached for a pen and saw that my ENTIRE hand and arm and sleeve looked like I had dipped them in blood.
Not a good way to start my day.
Changed to a new set of scrubs and went back to where Knuckles stays during our work time and needed some major love. He provided snuggles, licks and some cute squeaks. Then I snapped this shot with my phone
-
of him in one cage next to his buddy Sharky the Chihuahua (he is grandpa sharky) because they were just sooooo cute!!!
I wont go into details but the day went like this….
blood, blood, death,
blood, blood, cancer,
blood, blood, angry owner who yells at me,
blood, blood, euthanasia.
Needless to say I am drinking a glass of wine!

Hmm, suddenly it doesn’t seem so bad to go into work in the morning and have voice mail from somebody whose computer program isn’t working properly …

Wow what an important job! I’m glad Knuckles gets to go to work with you every day. He would get lonely at home alone all day. You’re a great pet parent.

You know, I always thought that I would love to work at a vet’s. Now I’m not so sure. I think I would have a few glasses of wine.

That was a rough day. We’re sorry to read about it for you. Like 4yourpets I thought it would be great to work at the vets and be around animals all day, but now….
It is a gift that you can handle the trauma and help those pets in need. Bless you!

Actually I felt the same way when I started there. Worried about the sick and dying ones. But now I feel priveledged to be there when people are in such a sad place about their pets. I like to give them comfort and the pets comfort when they are re-cooperating. Its sometimes sad but also VERY rewarding!!!

A guy I went to high school with went on to become a vet. He later quit the business and became a Realtor. I asked him why, and he said, “I never stopped liking the working with animals part. It was working with the assholes who owned them that I hated.”
Many pet owners (like us) are good ones, but unless you harden your heart, the bad ones will get to you.
And how dare some jerk yell at you!!!

I was a dog walker for almost a decade… and that is exactly why I quit! It wasn’t the dogs… it was the humans!!!
